Melvin Pong, Art Director, WANAWANI Art Center

At WANAWANI Art Center, we celebrate art as a bridge connecting cultures, generations, and perspectives. This exhibition, “A Celebration of Creativity and Abundance,” features six extraordinary artists, each merging tradition with innovation to showcase the richness of artistic diversity and cultural storytelling.
Nai Swee Leng, a master of Chinese ink painting, presents serene Nanyang-inspired works, preserving traditional art while inspiring new generations. Tay Poi San, a third-generation Nanyang School artist, blends classic techniques with modern aesthetics, striking a balance between cultural roots and contemporary perspectives.
Raymond Koh introduces pyrography, transforming burn marks into art inspired by Chinese opera, exploring themes of heritage and spirituality. BK Yap energizes the exhibition with airbrush art depicting the arowana, a symbol of wealth and harmony, combining passion with technical brilliance.
Theng Sea Way reimagines Chinese calligraphy, merging timeless beauty with contemporary energy, while Goh Haw Yuan, the youngest artist, captures the elegance of aquatic life through delicate watercolors, showcasing the harmony of nature and humanity.
This exhibition celebrates contrasts-tradition and modernity, heritage and innovation-and invites visitors to immerse themselves in art’s boundless creativity. We extend our gratitude to these artists and warmly welcome you to explore their visions and celebrate the richness of culture through their works.
