Art is more than a visual experience—it is an emotional journey and a bridge between
tradition and innovation. “Art from the Heart,” an exhibition at WANAWANI ART CENTER,
embodies these ideals through the works of Master Tay Poi San and his four apprentices: Lily
Foo, Fion Yeo, Lim Sok Wee, and Tan Woon Sik. This exhibition highlights the deep
relationship between master and student, showcasing skill, artistic philosophy, and passion
across generations.
A renowned artist, Tay Poi San has spent decades honing his craft. His works reflect cultural
narratives, balancing past and present. His meticulous approach to art ensures each stroke
and form carry deep meaning. His guidance has helped his students find their artistic voices.
Each apprentice brings a unique perspective, shaped by Tay’s teachings. Lily Foo’s paintings
capture fleeting, powerful emotions through expressive brushwork. Fion Yeo’s artistic journey
is driven by a deep love for painting and a quest for inner peace and spiritual awakening.
Using the brush as a medium, she layers rich colors to express self-exploration and spiritual
elevation. Lim Sok Wee delves into solitude and self-discovery, using space and form to
create tranquil, thought-provoking pieces. Tan Woon Sik experiments with structure and
abstraction, his bold strokes challenging artistic norms while maintaining discipline under
Tay’s mentorship.
“Art from the Heart” is more than an exhibition—it is a tribute to artistic legacy and personal
growth. The bond between a master and his apprentices is built on trust, respect, and a
shared vision. Tay’s teachings extend beyond technique to the philosophy of art—the
importance of patience, observation, and authenticity.
Visitors will witness the evolution of each artist and the harmony of tradition and innovation.
Wanawani Art Center is proud to host “Art from the Heart,” a space where stories, emotions,
and creativity flourish. This exhibition reminds us that true art is not just seen but deeply felt,
created from the heart.
